  • SVG: Grafiken, Wappen, Diagramme, Logos... (auch animierbar und interaktiv möglich)
  • PNG: Computergenerierte Inhalte (Renderings), Screenshots, Fotos..., mit Alphakanal
  • TIF: Bilder mit (max.) Farbtiefe 32 Bit pro Kanal, Scans, mit Alphakanal, empfohlen für HDRI-Fotos (neben *.EXR und *.HDR)
  • JPG: Fotos
  • STL: 3D-Dateien
  • WAV: Audioinhalte
  • MP3: Audioinhalte
  • WebM: Videoinhalte

Welche Einschränkungen haben die Dateitypen?

  • SVG: Mögliche Inkompatibilitäten, Lesefehler bei uneinheitlichem oder gar "unsauberem" Code
  • GIF: Keine Transparenzabstufungen, meist nur Farbpalette von 256 Farben, veralteter Standard
  • PNG: Manchmal relativ große Dateigrößen
  • TIF: Manchmal sehr große Dateigrößen
  • JPG: Kompression (eigentlich) immer verlustbehaftet (gibt weniger Bearbeitungsspielraum), nur maximal 8 Bit pro Farbkanal, kein Alphakanal (keine Transparenz)
  • STL: Keine NURBS, keine Oberflächeninformationen (wie Glanz, Reflexion, oder Transparenz), keine Texturen, kein Rigging, keine Animationen
  • MP3: Verlustbehaftete Kompression
  • WebM: Dateien werden gerade bei UHD-Inhalten und/oder Inhalten mit höchster Qualität schnell groß (manchmal größer als 4 GiB), WebM-Inhalte werden durch Grafikkarten eigentlich nie hardwarebeschleunigt
