Edit request: "write a note on the item's talk page"
{{Edit protected}} Currently, this page in the "Participating" tile has this suggested task:
Identifying?
Have a browse through Category:Unidentified subjects. If you find something you can identify, write a note on the item's talk page.
Assuming this is kept there (rather than just on a page that is linked), could you please change write a note on the item's talk page
to e.g. adjust the file's categories
. If people just write on the talk page it's quite likely nothing will be done (which is demotivating and boring), rather they should change the category of the file accordingly. Prototyperspective (talk) 13:22, 3 May 2025 (UTC)
- I'd personally agree with this. signed, Aafi (talk) 17:39, 4 May 2025 (UTC)
- 100% agree. For the less brave, maybe we could suggest writing at the village pump or some other frequented place (but the emphasis should be on “fix it yourself”, to make the process more efficient and avoid flooding the village pump). —Tacsipacsi (talk) 18:13, 18 May 2025 (UTC)
- I third this. Phương Linh (talk) 10:42, 5 June 2025 (UTC)

- Thanks! Could you wikilink
the file's categories
to Commons:Categories? This would help people new to categories. Ideally, the header or section "Quick guide" would be highlighted somehow because users certainly don't need to read that long page to do any categorization or learn its basics – that doesn't seem possible currently and isn't important. For probably more or less the same reasons the meta page about structured data Commons:Structured data is also linked in that sentence. I wouldn't have addedand depicts statements in structured data
there but it makes sense. Prototyperspective (talk) 17:26, 30 July 2025 (UTC)
